How many books inhabit my To-Be-Read pile?...

21st June 2011

I don't actually take part in this meme (mainly because I don't post reviews about all the books that I read) but I do think the questions posed can be interesting... and thought provoking...

This particular question made me laugh out loud...

Question:

“How many books are currently in your To-Be-Read (TBR) Pile?”

After all I live in a house that has at least one book case in every room (including the attic) except the kitchen and bathroom...  The small bedroom which is nicknamed the book room...  has a lovely blue futon sofa bed (very comfy to lounge on for reading) but which has long since ceased to be used as a spare bed as it cannot be opened up due to the number of bookshelves that now surround the walls.

Other than all the books packed onto every shelf usually lying on their sides (I discovered I could fit more books onto the sh
elf this way as I didn't like the wasted space above the books) usually two piles deep...  so many novels, biographys, fascinating non fiction, historical tombs... a multitude read... many more waiting to be read...

imaginary and real worlds hidden within books of mythology... folklore... fairy tales...  all of which I fully intend to explore and lose myself inside...  when time allows...

So in answer to this hilarious question...  too many to be counted...

I've even taken to borrowing books in the to-be-read pile from the library in audio book format so that I can "read" listen to them while I am working...  new method of multi-tasking...

My mum taught me to read when I was 2 1/2 and by the time I started school a week before my 4th birthday I had already read all of the reading books for the first year...

The highlight of my world when I was tiny was the arrival of the mobile library bus at the parking area just beyond our gates... where I would proceed to read and browse most of the children's books before deciding upon which ones I wanted to take out to read again...

Agatha Raisin...

Thursday 31st March 2011

Goodness... When it comes to my reading habits...
I always seem to get completely caught up in reading a whole series...

The most recent one that I have lost whole days reading is the Agatha Raisin series by M C Beaton.

I just happened to be browsing through Bargain Books and saw a few books from the Agatha Raisin series and I bought...

Agatha Raisin and the Wellspring of Death
Agatha Raisin and the Wizard of Evesham
Agatha Raisin and the Witch of Wyckhadden
Agatha Raisin and the Fairies of Fryfam
Agatha Raisin and the Love from Hell (truly hilarious)
Agatha Raisin and the Day the Floods Came

Now that I have finished reading these...
and I started the series in the middle (missed the first 6 books out of the series)...

Agatha Raisin and the Quiche of Death
Agatha Raisin and the Vicious Vet
Agatha Raisin and the Potted Gardener
Agatha Raisin and the Walkers of Dembley
Agatha Raisin and the Murderous Marriage
Agatha Raisin and the Terrible Tourist

Of course... I normally find myself going straight to Amazon.co.uk to find the rest of the series...

but there just seemed to be too many...

I have really enjoyed reading these books... she is a modern day... middle aged Miss Marple who happily blunders through and into the middle of murder cases...

So I am feeling rather self righteous and have reserved

Agatha Raisin and the Curious Curate
Agatha Raisin and the Haunted House
Agatha Raisin and the Deadly Dance
Agatha Raisin and the Perfect Paragon
Agatha Raisin and the Love, Lies and Liquor
Agatha Raisin and the Kissing Christmas Goodbye

from my local library...
they even have a very useful email service to let me know when they arrive...

Of course all of them have arrived except for the one that I need to read next...
Agatha Raisin and the Haunted House...
This is always the way of things.  I just have to find patience and get on with work that needs to be done.

Only two more in the series after I read the ones above...

Agatha Raisin and a Spoonful of Poison
and
Agatha Raisin:  There Goes the Bride

I'm also holding my breath because when I went to look at the authors Website... which of course I couldn't resist doing...  I discovered on her News page that the BBC are intending to repeat their Agatha Raisin series on BBC Radio 7 very soon...  I am now checking the Radio 7 website on a daily basis...

What we did... and... didn't do...

13 August 2010

We had a lovely time together... we didn't go out on daytrips anywhere... we just went for walks... read books... enjoyed the garden...  and I enjoyed some knitting... and taking photographs...

When my mum and I are together... we read... relax... catch up with each others lives... and enjoy companionable silence...

Of course reading is a bit trickier with a puppy... easier with the cat who likes to sit beside her...

It was a real book fest...

I loved City of Bones by Cassandra Clare and wished I had brought the second book with me...
Out of the two biographies I read... the one about Stephenie Meyer was weak... the one about Poe showed his difficult and tragic life...  no wonder his stories were dark...
The Rottweiler by Ruth Rendell was gripping
The Breakers by Minette Walters was excellent although I prefered the Echo...
Ink Exchange by Melissa Marr was a bit dark... fairies in the present world...
Creativity Now by Jurgen Wolff was fascinating...
